CJs @Home Opened its Doors... Come Inside

Saturday my Aunt Carol opened the doors to the new "cj's @ home" concept store. Offering home furnishings, art, gifts, stationary, etc. For the past 43 years she's dressed women, beginning out of a room in her parents home before moving to the locally famous corner. Her neighbors include favorite La Louisiana restaurant and Simply Wholesome.

From 12-5 guests were greeted with a selection of drinks (champagne, mimosas, or cider ) as they perused through vignettes of home goods, candles, and stationary items. With the foundation set, its soon to be layered with graffiti art work, antiques, tech goods for the modern connoisseur, and so much more. Stay tuned Grand Opening coming soon, but here's just a taste.

It was a chilly Saturday morning outside of my mother's townhouse that I grabbed my twenty plus looks to shoot pics for the online store. With the help of a great team our eight hour shoot went by with two meals, and several dance breaks.

The goal of any shoot is to get "the shot". I was going for a catalog feel as opposed to an editorial layout. When people are buying clothes they want to be clear about the texture, the colors, and most importantly the fit. At the same time I wanted to make sure it was till exciting and inspiring. I needed to make sure the clothes did the talking while the hair, make-up, and styling were just a punctuation!

So lets start at the beginning...

... with the most important meal of the day.

i served fresh fruit, range juice, and cocoa, water, and few sweet treats.

one thing I know for sure, when it comes to satisfying taste buds, people love something a little sweet and a little fried.

We put jewelry and accessories on trays for organizing and handling.

For hair I wanted a loose wispy top knot that looked casual and feminine, yet effortlessly pulled together.

The make-up was simple. A soft face, pretty skin with a bold lip, and highlighted cheekbones. #totallyobsessed

lunch time: a spread of deli sliced chicken and turkey, romaine lettuce, tomatoes, and muenster cheese on butter topped mini croissants. washed down with Sparkling flavored ciders.

It was a long chilly day, and everyone was awesome. Thank you thank you thank you.. for helping to make the newest addition to the Love Collins Brand come to life!!!!!

Hello Beautiful!!!

One of my favorite things to do is to lounge on a beach til the sun sets. Had I paid attention, yesterday's 80 degree weather would have been perfect to do just that. Around 3 o'clock EC and I decided to cruise along the coast. And oh how the elements did not dissapoint.

For dinner, we grabbed a BBQ chicken pizza from a local pizzaria and waited for the sun to set.

(sorry, no pics on the pizza, I forgot... )

Hands down one of my favorite songs. Its got a slow, romantic vibe to it.

I was but a young "tenderoni" when I was first introduced and fell in love Bob Marley. His dark thick eye brows, deep set eyes, and those naughty dreads. I was smitten. Then the music rocked and stayed with me. In my own ways I incorporated his spirit into my teenage years. First things first, I went "au naturale" with my hair, and said no to perms. I entertained the thought of locks, until I remembered how much I love a good slick back bun.

I was able to satisfy my bohemian urges in other ways, mainly my wardrobe. It was the loudest form of expression. One Christmas, I think I was about 13 or 14, I wore a blush pink organza neckerchief, with a brushed suede sleeveless blouse, and chocolate brown stretch corduroy bell bottoms with no shoes. My mom urged me to at least take a pair of shoes with me... just in case!

The storyline is set in "The Shrine", the affectionate name of Kuti's late 70's club. Here Kuti not only developed the sound he calls, "Afrobeat" but its his personal platform to display the openly corrupt and repressive dictatorship of the era. A vigilant for civil justice in his beloved Lagos, Nigeria, Kuti sings of his personal trials, his country's cry, and the unjust death of his mother, all to syncopated rhythmic drums, sexy saxophones and trumpets. The afrobeat fuses a global sound and the story a global message of civility.

I wish that a class was being held with these dancers. Any art form of dance puts me in a state of amazement. The strength and the agility of a dancer is desirable. I wanted to hop on that stage to try and mimic every bah-tee-roll (body roll). This level of popping and gyrating was not something you can pick up in a club, unless you happen to be in the Caribbean somewhere. The movements were sharp, hard, and fast. I kept thinking how are they moving their feet and their knees that fast. Whoa! It is absolutely 100% emotionally captivating.

Hit up the Biltmore hotel for a meeting and found a few treasures. This is a Los Angeles oldie but goodie, now the Millennium Biltmore hotel. Upon its opening in 1923 it was the largest hotel west of Chi-town. Its now designated as a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument.

Where: Clinton & Knoxville, TN

Not too far from his aunts house and where we were staying is Jarnigan Street. The Hayden family block, where Craig grew up, his mother and her siblings, and his grandparents. It was cool to put a picture to the stories he's shared with me. For the most part no one really lives in this area anymore.

Just down the road and up the hill is the Green McAdoo elementary school, which has since become the memorial for the historic "Clinton 12".

The now museum, operated by his Aunt Sue, commemorates the forced desegregation of Clinton High School in 1956 and the infamous twelve African American teens who took that walk for the first time, for the first semester, leading to the first integrated commencement. I learned that most of the students, along with parents, preachers, and the community gathered at Green McAdoo elementary and walked over to the high school together, on that day. Among the twelve celebrated children was Craig's oldest uncle, Ronald Gordon"Poochie" Hayden, his mother's oldest brother.

My ah ha moments kept bringing me back to the differences between city and country. Which is natural because I have always lived in major cities. LA, DC, NY. If this museum were in any of the those places there would be security, and events, and lots of "lights". But here we have something so monumental to the movement of education, civil rights, and our countries history and it rests at the top of the hill, across the street from the quaint Methodist church, and right next to the renovated gym. Its simple, its genuine, its honest! That's the feeling I keep getting from Tennessee.

In 1982 Knoxville played host to the World's Fair and this 266 ft. five store golden globe beauty was the chosen gem built to symbolize the fair. Gorgeous!

So we turned the corner and saw this!

We drove back around, I got out of the car and found a man so mesmerized by the building he forgot to row and started sinking into the ground.

Although the weather wasn't too bad in TN, I did most of might seeing from the car. Either because it drizzled or by the time we made it to most of these places it was dark. This statue caught my attention as we drove through the open campus. It was peaking in between two buildings. We went back, and it was even better up close.

Favorite place to shop? (state/city) For me? I don't. Blame that on my mother and grandmother and their "department" store shopping on Sundays lol.

What was your biggest fashion faux paux? Wearing matching lime green sweatsuits to "Thunder Over Louisville" in high school with my best friend. Lawd have mercy!

Most memorable childhood outfit? Halloween. I was about 3. My mother and I sat on the porch with whatever we had on after we cut the pumpkin (that had a wig on). The only thing that mattered were my Daffy Duck sandals (my legs were crossed).

How would you describe the evolution of your style? Master transformation! I never wore a dress before college (unless it was Easter or church). I wore 2-piece sweatsuits (with creases...yes, don't judge me!), I sagged and wore white-on-white Reebok's. Yep, a very serious case of tomboy-dom. Now I know how to cross my legs properly
I love that? What sparked your change? Working at BCBG changed my perspective of when I was supposed to wear "those things". Once I changed the way I dressed they started talking to me.

Favorite Shape? The shape of a Well Dressed Man (No, seriously!..) Have you ever just sat back and looked at a man? His shoulders? The perfect lines? If you haven't I suggest you try it. You will be pleased.

Dear Lovelies,

People often ask me what designer I would most compare myself with. Honestly, I never had a sure answer because I didn’t want to be compared and begin my career in the shadow of another designer. I do however appreciate certain elements that embody my design aesthetic from different designers. After viewing the film “Valentino: The Last Emperor,” several times, I now know its Mr. Valentino’s shadow I’d never mind living in. And for good reason...
It's the care and attention that is put into making each gown, his love for creating and experiencing beautiful things in and out of fashion, and of course his signature Valentino red. My signature color however is "Chocolate". Ultimately, it’s his ability to translate the simple idea that women want to be beautiful into clothes that’s makes me a student to his craft.

The film, with its beautiful backdrops of Paris, Rome and the exclusive Haute Couture lifestyle of Valentino Garavani, tells the story of the climb to the three day retrospective of the Valentino brands 45 year career and the highly speculated retirement of the legendary designer. Unexpectedly, but very necessary, the film displays the current themes that pull the fantasy of the fashion world into the reality of the economy and business. All the while it is beautifully punctuated by pleated silk chiffon, sequined trimmed godets, fashion shows, and even a few cameos from ALT. Even after four decades of consistent and precise technique, the seventy-plus year old designer still faces questioning by business partners and spectators. Not giving in, Mr. Valentino remains adamant to his instinct, “I make dresses for women who actually wear them.”

For many years outside of his career, which began to take flight after the success of his all white collection in the seventies and the attention he garnered from dressing socialites such as Jackie O and Elizabeth Taylor, he has lived a very private and privileged life. The film gives us a "Behind the Seams" look inside his studio, which encompasses a full time in house fit model and at one point housed one sewing machine for the 100 white lab coat clad seamstresses who never used it.

It’s an accomplishment, to say the least, to produce a collection with such romance, beauty, and fluidity it moves an audience to tears. To be able to capture emotion in the movement of fabric and a single breath in the weight of each garment, while color intensifies your heart beat and anticipation of each piece to hit the runway. It’s simply the work of an artist. “Haute Couture is something you’re born with. It can’t be learned in fashion school,” says Valentino’s life long friend and business partner Giancarlo Giammetti. That beauty has carried the Valentino name from 1973 until today.

You don’t have to love fashion to appreciate this story; it is truly a film for the artist that is within. In the Spirit of ALT, “It’s a triumph of the will, the will to continue to be.” Touché, Godfather. A triumph of the will to chase your dreams, and once you capture it not allowing it to be taken away.

I noticed between Knoxville and Clinton there a lot of vintage and second hand chain stores. There were at least three GoodWill's in one area. Overall I made it to five different stores.

I spotted this store as we drove through an area called "OldTown/ OldCity" Knoxville. Glad we stopped, I was able to pick up a few goodies... The vintage consignment shop is a combination of clothing, records, instruments, light bites, furniture, and accessories, etc.

The back of the store houses consignment vintage for men and women with a few extras.

In an open suitcase $1 uncut vintage Vogue & Butterick patterns. Score!!

The man and his music. This John Coltrane is a great find.

At one point while I was shopping in the back I think I heard Craig playing the guitars.

"Shawty what cho name is" Denim Trench coat circa 1970. I also picked up a denim dress for myself. Maybe we'll wear them on the same day, go to Magic Mountain, and take some pictures!!! #OldSchool

The darnedest thing about this fur collar, it sheds terribly. I always follow up with, "Rabbit's getting old baby. We tear another piece off and make some earrings. We coordinate."

Yayy! So I have finally loaded pics from my week long #CountryChristmas trip to Tennessee.

After a layover in Vegas, with a three hour delay, we made it to Nashville. From there we drove about 2 hours to his quaint hometown of Clinton. The tallest building may have been five stories and the business district consisted of two buildings.

No matter where I travel there is always a part of my personality that finds comfort in a foreign environment. Overall, Clinton en comparison to LA/NY/DC, is quiet. Where it lacks the hustle of Hollywood and the air of fashion, charm and contentment suffice the character of the city.

The Git n' Go

When I lived on the east coast 7-eleven was one of those California jewels, like El Pollo Loco, that I missed. Those moments that remind you of home always help you feel comfortable in new places. That's what the Git n' Go did for me. Plus they were everywhere. I over-snacked!

I satisfied my ice cravings with $0.29 and a 32oz cup. Good crushed ice.

I picked up a grape and green apple Super Bubble just to rouse the memory of walking home from school. They're still extra sugary, juicy, and sweet.

Before I even made it to Tennessee I hit the internet to source some of their local antique/ vintage/ thrift stores. They have lots! It turns out that in Clinton, their "Downtown" happens to be one street, literally, and its lined with antique and vintage shops.

Unfortunately most of them were closed, so I was only able to nab a few shots on that day.

If I were a collector of vintage sewing machines Tennessee would be my biggest supplier. Over the course of the seven days I was there I came across so many machines. In great condition as well. The mint green one (pictured right) was adorable. A miniature sized singer for kids. Sweet! Both under $40 bucks.

When I moved back to Los Angeles I kept hearing about "Macaroni Grill". By the local reviews I received from family and friends I was anxious to assess their reports. It only took me about five years to finally get there!

Italian food is high on my list of favorites because it consists of several elements I consider to be a winning combination for flavor.
Sauce + Fresh herbs + Cheese = Winning! Pretty basic right, but the variance of actual ingredients are endless.

So lets get to the food. I've been thrwice. (Ha, i love using that word. Who ever says thrwice?!) Here's what we nibbled on over the course of our visits.

Fresh, out of the oven rosemary peasant bread.

We like ours with olive oil and lots of fresh cracked pepper.

Italian Tapas:

I'm not big on spicy flavors, but these were actually very tasty.

Peep the "How To"

I started with two pieces of remnant fabric about 11-1/2 inches wide and 1-1/2 yards long.

Note: The length gives it its fullness.

Stitch one end of each piece of fabric together "right side"facing each other.

Note: "right side"is the side of the fabric that is worn on the oustide.

For the hem I chose a 1/2 inch double fold.

Add in my signature chocolate label, and voila!

Congratulations to actress Paula Patton on her Harper's Bazaar cover story. Paula, who's making her promotional rounds for her starring roll in Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocal, looks gorgeous on the December cover. The film starring Tom Cruise, Ving Rhames, Jeremy Renner, and Anil Kapoor is set to hit theaters December 21in the US.

For the shoot Patton dons traditional garb by Mauzan. Mauzan, in Arabic means "rare pearl", is known for using luxurious French and Italian fabrics to sculpt her graceful silhouettes. I even read that the designer has specialty fabrics made from Valentino and Ungaro. Dope!

The desert wear label consists of three collections, Mauzan, Miss Mauzan, and Mauzan Exclusive which produce, abayas, sheilas, and arabian perfumes. Never astray from tradition and heritage the collection still has a modern and forward presence. Sworavski crystals, chiffons, crepes, pearls, metallic thread embroidery, and exclusive looming techniques give the collection a designer feel.

So my family's holiday weekend included three events. Beginning on Thursday our Thanksgiving Day feast. Saturday a happy bday party for "T2" at Chuck E. Cheese, and Sunday a private Dedication Service at my aunt and uncle's house.

Meet Sayge-Jozelle. She looks darling in her custom Love Collins. My cousins Kimmy and Ty invited family and close friends for a private prayer and dedication of their youngest baby.

For her dress I did 5 layers of an iridescent pleated trim. I embroidered floral trim along the waist and neckline over a cotton sateen foundation with shirred tulle under the skirt.

Super cute, super sweet, and super simple!!

Ri-Ri (Ty's mom) threw down on the food as usual! After we ate all the baked chicken, BBQ beef, macaroni & cheese, and fresh greens from her fathers country garden it was time out break out the left over Turkey Day food. Holiday favorites in our family are banana squash, rice dressing, monkey bread, and of macaroni & cheese. I'll see what pics I can collect to do a #Foodies post.

Lately I've been all about a monochromatic black or navy look. What's up with that?!

I went to a surprise dinner party recently at my favorite LA Thai food restaurant, Melanee Thai. If you haven't been there your missing out. If you have you already know what's up. "Garlic everything!" See the next post for details on the food.

Back to what I wore...

I'm wearing a cap sleeved navy dress, short sleeve double breasted "jacket-vest" something or other! You'll see. I paired it with a crystal navy beaded necklace and opaque tights.

I went for a bit of a contrast with these grey suede heels. You can't tell in this pic, but this shoe has a wide chunky heel that I love. I kept warm in this slightly off white top coat. I have a strong shoulder line for my frame so the wide collar and lapel give me an overall softer proportion.

Alandria Jones events (@sumthinggud2eat) rented out the restaurant for the night.

The decor was simple, clean, and intimate. A single orchid centerpiece was complimented by candles, and a variety of drinking glasses. personalized table cards, and frames.

Personal statements were placed in picture frames. Guests were greeted at their seats with a blank card to write a personal birthday wish.

Foodies: Melanee Thai

My recommendation is to grab a bunch of friends and head to Melanee Thai for great food and great conversation. The atmosphere is cozy, relaxed, and quaint at this local hotspot. Paul, owner and head chef, welcomes every customer with a familiar head nod and hand wave.

But lets' talk food. I'm all about big, bold flavor, and fresh fresh ingredients. Enter Melanee Thai. A twenty-something year old family run business. The prices are easy on the wallet and the portions on most entrees are large enough for four people to split. You will be completely satisfied. I guarantee it.

Fried Shrimp Rolls

Shrimp deep fried in phyllo dough. The crunch is out of this world, but it's incomparable to the burst of flavor you get when you bite into it. Once @OhJazzy and I (my fellow foodie) stopped by for lunch and ordered three of these. We were determined to figure out the seasoning combination. Verdict: Not successful!

Hands down one of my favorite dishes is the "Paul Special". Based on my taste buds it goes a little something like this. Breaded shrimp fried, then sauteed in a garlic sauce over thin silky buttery noodles. Always flanked by two large crisp and crunchy blanched to perfection pieces of asparagus. I have to have extra garlic sauce (see pic below). Its like each piece of garlic is breaded, fried, then sauteed in this delicious mysterious sauce. Mysterious, because Paul won't give up the juice on the details. Trust me I've asked!

Chinese Chicken Salad

Everything in this salad is crispy, crunchy, super fresh and slightly chilled. Then surprise, the chicken is thin, tender and warm. Coated in a light sesame ginger sauce.

Garlic Black Pepper Chicken

Marinated in a light garlic black pepper sauce with carrots, bok choy, onions, spinach, and finished with cilantro. Rediculously delicious! The chicken is tender and marinated very well, while the vegetables remain crisp and fresh. Served over with white rice.

Seafood Fried Rice

Crab, scallops, shrimp in traditional fried rice. The rice is light and fluffy with peas, carrots, egg, and large slices of onions. Paul does not skimp on the seafood in this dish. I've called him to walk me through the recipe, but he told me not to learn how to make it so I would come there to eat it.

Do not waste your time ordering simple "pad thai". If you happen to give this place a shot, try at least one of the dishes I've mentioned above. I also recommend any of the following, I've had them all.

Bangkok noodle,
Garlic tofu or garlic eggplant
Spicy Seafood
Coconut Rice
Orange chicken... you get the point!

Guy was known for its contributions during the New Jack Swing, era of music. This Harlem formed band was comprised of childhood friends, Teddy Riley, Timmy Gatling, and Aaron Hall who joined the group as lead vocalist. Soon after recording finished for the first album Gatling was replaced by Damion Hall. "Peace of My Love" was one of seven singles released on the triple platinum "Guy" album in 1988. Where were you when this song came out? I was just barely turning eight, yet I knew this was the jam. This song came to mind recently sitting around with friends going through some oldies but goodies. We were talking about different little moments we've noticed in the background of songs. If you listen closely Aaron Hall ad-libs "You stupid b*&^#" right around the 00:48 second mark. I guess she was pretty stupid to deal with him knowing she could could get a piece!

I was recently on set for a 4 day catalog photo-shoot. Each day for lunch we were treated to a little nook and cranny called Market Restaurants. Its menu consists of easy breakfast and lunch staples prepared with gourmet ingredients and creativity.

Our main platters, a variety of sandwiches and veggie wraps, were pretty much the same each day. We were however treated to a different salad. Each one was more delectable than the previous. If you happen to be downtown I definitely recommend stopping for a bite. Or you can order to go like I did the next day!

Below are my two favorites of the salads.

Feta-terranean Salad: romaine lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, feta cheese, black olives, pita chips, garbanzo beans, lemon vinaigrette.

So fresh, and delicious. My favorite of these flavors was the combination of the lemon vinaigrette, the pita chip, olive and the feta cheese. Salty, Creamy, and a little crunch topped with the citrus from the lemon.

Albacore Tuna Salad: Baby greens, Albacore tuna, young potatoes egg, green beans, tomatoes, balsamic vinaigrette

A complete meal! As you can see this one is loaded full of carbs and starches, you are sure to be full. Large enough for two servings, but of course I ate mine one. Usually when i put my tuna over a salad mix I use olive oil and maybe a little lemon for dressing. Having the tart acidic balsamic vinaigrette was a pleasant surprise.

Rating: Its no Nike.
Besides my running shoes, this is the closest thing I have in my closet to a sneaker. Sneaker's just aren't my thing, and I am good with that. Since high-school I think I may have owned two pairs. But I can roll with these.

This was my "hard day of labor" outfit. I've realized I suck at taking pics of myself.

Nonetheless a head-to-toe shot. Who wears pearls for organizing an office?! Raising hands, me.

For lunch one day we found this little spot. I didn't order too much so I only have a few pics to share. I ordered the pad Thai, shown above. The lime garnish added a nice citrus note atop the traditional flavor.

I suck! I cannot remember what the heck this dish is called. From the picture we're looking at chicken with alfalfa sprouts, rice and a house salad. Sorry!

Buddha dumplings: steamed chicken pot stickers topped with green curry sauce.

The green curry sauce was light with a bit of sweetness to it. The mint leaves and red pepper garnish was a perfect addition.

Surprisingly as much as this video was loved and mimicked by girls everywhere, Pleasure Principle was one of the six singles released off of the Control album that did not make it to the top five of the Billboard charts. Its so pop culture eighties, with the fitted faded black high waist jeans, the haircut, and the over sized light blue denim jacket she wears in the opening shot. Oh, lets not forget the t-shirt tied in a front knot, anyone having a flashback. I wish I had pictures of my younger self. I could probably show a picture to coincide with each of these videos.

Did you know that this cover was shot by famed fashion photographer David LaChapelle?

I wanted this haircut so bad, but my mom wouldn't let me get it. She told me it was too grown-up for me. I suppose I was only seven when this track was released in 1987. Its still fresh. Maybe I'll reconsider, I have been working layers into my do lately.

What's your Pleasure Principle memory? One of my favorite parts is when she does that 80's rock with her fist balled up. I think I'm gonna break out the knee pads!

It's Janet Jackson tribute week!!!!!!

I love me some Janet Jackson. Growing up she was my favorite "entertainer". I must make that clear because everyone knows that "The Queen" Aretha Franklin, is my favorite singer.

But my Jan... that's who I imitated in the mirror with a hair brush or the closest spray can I could find. You could not tell me that I didn't have every move down packed. I was nine years old when rhythm Nation was released in 198, and eleven when this single, Love will Never Do (Without You) was released in 1991. I had the black jacket and the 1814 cap to go with it. I was well versed in R&B music by this time, so like the rest, I just closed my eyes, cast myself in the video, and sang and danced to Djimon like he dancing with me.

This is one of my all time favorite song and videos. I love the simplicity of the styling and videography. Originally, the styling called for Janet to wear a dress but video director, the late Herb Ritts, envisioned Janet in nothing more than a black tank and jeans. Perfect! Played alongside then, Calvin Klein underwear models, Antonio Sabato Jr. and Djimon Honsou.

Did you know... Originally Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis toyed with the idea of making this song a duet? Johnny Gill, Ralph Tresvant, and Prince, were possible candidates, all artists the famous producers were working with at the time.

When Jackson laid the track down singing the first verse in a lower octave, imitating a male vocal, and the second verse in one octave higher, she and producers kept the song as is. Can you imagine if Prince did a duet on this song? No lie it would be funky. I'm imagining something like "If I Was Your Girlfriend".

My Jan looks so gorgeous in the Blackglama Luxury Mink legendary ad campaign "What Becomes A Legend Most?" Janet has joined the ranks of many legendary starlets to have carried the long running campaign from the past five decades.

Since its inception in 1968 the "Blackglama" furs campaign has always featured a public figure of iconic status in a full page series of black-and-white print ads. And always features its memorable question. "What becomes a Legend most?"

Janet is one of the few younger additions to the campaign. Siting that she has not reached her goals of iconic status, but is appearing for the second time in the campaign.

I'd love to see Bette Midler, Tina Turner, and Cicely Tyson participate and recognized for their accomplishments. Who do you think should be added?

If you saw my tweet yesterday then you already know how I feel about the J. Cole version of "Party" used for her single, rather than the album version featuring Andre3000. I was actually looking forward to seeing him not only back on camera, but I was also looking forward to seeing what type of dynamic they might have created. After seeing the video, which I love, I know for sure "The Love Below" crooner would have been a better match. But above all of that his verse was just better!

Ok just one more thing... My main beef is that I felt they bubble-gummed it up by adding J.Cole. He's a youngin and this track has a grown up groove to it. Having Bey, Kanye, and Andre3000 all together I thought, kept kept it funky.

Everyone loves a good house party, I know I do. Some o my fondest soirees have happened in the living rooms of a many Brooklyn apartments. A few close good friends + good food + good music = its a party.

Even pregnant Beyonce is not giving room for anyone else to shine. Count on Bey, and Ty (her stylist, and no I do not know them personally, hehee) to give us a myriad of trailer park backyard plastic pool glamour. Fun eighties trends and dance moves pop up all over this video. The hot pink fanny pack and Solange's pom-pom hair balls are my faves. Kelly Rowland, designers Coco & Breezy, rapper Theophillus london, and of course her babysistah DJ'd.

Very interested in what you guys think about the video, the collaboration, my thoughts.

A black and white concept heightens every story. The contrast can make anything seem more dramatic, more edgy and graphic, more crispy and clean.

I'm feeling this one. To be honest I haven't been a fan since Goapele's Closer. I fell off following her music with the second single from her first album, I know I suck. But I'm back on board. I got a chance to see her perform live at the BHCP-Live free concert series. See that story here.

Her fourth studio album Break of Dawn, is her first in six years. Along with her previous recordings are released through majors in conjunction with her independent label Skyblaze, a family owned independent label. Called the "spiritual love child of Sade and D'Angelo", Goapele says about the newest project, "I realized its possible to be complex and provocative."
